Auxiliary Bishop falls on Christmas Eve after a service

The Christmas service has come to an unfortunate end for the auxiliary bishop Karlheinz Diez in Fulda. The 56-year-old servant broke his ankle in a fall.

When leaving the cathedral after the Christmas service, the auxiliary bishop slipped on an ice sheet and then had to be hospitalized. Diagnosis: broken ankle - a sad outcome of Christmas Eve for the minister. Karlheinz Diez has now had an operation on his foot in the hospital and is currently on the mend, as a spokeswoman for the diocese said on Monday. Due to the risk of falling associated with winter weather conditions, numerous patients with broken bones, lacerations and bruises had to be treated in the hospital in the past few days. Fractures and broken bones are particularly common in January. (fp)
